Here is a sample of the types of projects that I've enjoyed working on.
Most of my work is created with commercial in confidence restrictions, so I cannot publicly display the final product here. However, I've pulled together the techniques and tools I use as well to better explain how I approach projects and what's involved in my work.
Observing human behavior, interviewing individuals in context, analysis and synthesis is where my passion lies. Uncovering the right thing/interface/service/etc. to design in the first place is where I spend my time.
Service design comes in many shapes and sizes, but my favorite explanation is ‘the intentional design of every interaction or touch point with a company.’ This statement is a challenge for almost any organization, but it’s a challenge that starts my brain ticking and curls the corners of my mouth upward. Human centered design looking at the holistic experience is one of my favorite things.
After identifying the 'right thing' to design, it's imperative that I design the 'thing right' - and test it, iterate, and test again. I have extensive experience designing websites, apps, digital products, and other interfaces, but have shifted my focus as an 'interface' isn't necessarily the design solution a person really needs.
When I have spare time, I love to work on my own personal side projects as well as mentoring others in the field. Over the years I've discovered the creative mediums I enjoy the most are scratchboard, wood burning, and painting with acrylics.
I also have created products from scratch, intersecting business needs and user requirements, working closely with Product Owners, Developers, and Visual Designers to bring new innovations to life. Throughout the design process I utilize design walls and conduct Formative and Summative usability testing - this ensures I do in fact 'design the thing right.'
